Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjælland are reportedly reluctant to release Ghanaian forward Prince Amoako Junior for the Black Stars’ upcoming international friendly against Mexico.
The 19-year-old has earned his first senior national team call-up following an impressive season, with the friendly scheduled for May 22, 2026, as part of Ghana’s preparations ahead of the World Cup.
Despite the invitation, there are concerns that Amoako’s debut could be delayed, as his club is weighing the importance of retaining him for the final stages of their domestic campaign.
FC Nordsjælland coach Jens Fønsskov Olsen expressed pride in the player’s national team recognition but admitted uncertainty over whether he will be released for international duty.
“I think I’m super proud that he’s been selected. He’s worked hard and had some really good performances in the Super League. We’re also really happy that he can play for the national team at such an early age.”
He added that discussions were still ongoing regarding the final decision.
“Then we have to see how the other thing can be resolved. Of course, that’s outside the window, and we have to see if we have a fight or not. Of course, we have seen and noted it, but right now we are most pleased with what has happened.”
Amoako Junior has been in fine form this season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, making him one of the standout young talents in the Danish top flight.
His performances have also attracted interest from top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
