Ghanaian international, Tariq Lamptey, has made a triumphant comeback to training with Brighton & Hove Albion after successfully recovering from a persistent injury.
The 23-year-old had been sidelined since November of the previous year, following an unfortunate incident during a match against Nottingham Forest where he sustained the injury. Lamptey’s early exit from the game, in the 35th minute, prompted a period of rehabilitation and recovery.
This setback led Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, to make the challenging decision of excluding the former Chelsea defender from the final 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite his initial inclusion in the preliminary 55-man squad.
The decision was primarily influenced by concerns about Lamptey’s ongoing recovery and doubts about his readiness to participate in a significant number of matches.
In a positive turn of events, Lamptey returned to group training on Thursday, actively engaging with his Seagulls teammates in a promising return to the pitch. While the exact timeline for his competitive comeback remains uncertain, Lamptey’s participation in group training is undeniably a reassuring sign for both the player and Brighton & Hove Albion enthusiasts.
Under the guidance of manager Roberto De Zerbi, the talented right-back had previously made seven appearances in various competitions for Brighton during the ongoing 2023/24 season.
As Lamptey continues his journey back to full match fitness, his return to training marks a hopeful chapter for both his personal career and the collective aspirations of Brighton & Hove Albion.
