Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has refused to blame Ghanaian international Brandon Thomas-Asante for their 2-1 defeat to Norwich City in the English Championship.
Thomas-Asante played the full 90 minutes as Coventry City let a one-goal lead slip, with fellow Ghanaian Forson Amankwah scoring twice to complete a comeback victory for Norwich. Despite the defeat, Thomas-Asante’s work rate and contribution did not go unnoticed.
The Black Stars forward missed a crucial chance in the second half that could have changed the outcome of the game. However, Lampard defended his striker during the post-match press conference. “I’m never one to criticize; everyone wants to score. If we get that right, we probably win the game, but it wasn’t to be. If he would have scored his chance, he would have fully deserved that,” Lampard remarked.
Since joining Coventry from West Bromwich Albion in the summer, Thomas-Asante has made 27 appearances, proving to be an integral part of the squad. His energy and diligence on the field continue to earn him the trust of Lampard.
Coventry City, currently positioned 16th in the Championship standings, will be looking to bounce back from the defeat as they aim to climb the league table in the coming weeks.
