Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has disclosed that the GFA, under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, has received a total of $7.5 million in funding from FIFA between 2020 and 2024.
Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa FM, Afriyie stated that documents he accessed detail the allocation of funds meant to support football development in the country over the past four years.
Providing a year-by-year breakdown, Afriyie revealed:
- In 2020, the GFA received $1 million in general funding, $500,000 for special projects, and $200,000 for equipment, amounting to $1.7 million.
- In 2021, the funding increased to $1.8 million.
- By 2022, FIFA allocated $1.7 million.
- In 2024, the GFA received its highest allocation yet, totaling $2.3 million.
Afriyie also acknowledged additional contributions from corporate partners, including PUMA and CAF, noting that these partnerships remain crucial revenue streams for the association.
His remarks have sparked calls for greater transparency and accountability in the utilization of these funds to ensure they directly contribute to the growth and development of Ghanaian football at all levels.
