Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo has called on Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku to step down from his position or at the very least, avoid seeking a third term in office after fulfilling his current mandate.
Fianoo, a respected figure in Ghanaian football, expressed his concerns about Okraku’s leadership and hinted that his tenure had not been entirely beneficial for the progress of the sport in the country. According to Fianoo, it would be in the best interest of the GFA if Okraku were to resign or bow out gracefully at the end of his second term, without pursuing another term in office.
“Kurt Okraku should resign, or better yet, fulfill his second term and then leave without seeking a third term,” Fianoo stated said during an interview on Akoma FM.
Fianoo’s remarks add to the growing scrutiny surrounding Okraku’s leadership as the GFA faces criticism over the management of football in the country.
Despite leading the GFA through a period of rebuilding after the Anas exposé that shook the foundation of Ghana football in 2018, Okraku has been under fire in recent times for perceived mismanagement and a lack of accountability in certain key areas.
The GHALCA chairman’s comments have sparked conversations within football circles, as the GFA president has yet to respond to the call.
Kurt Okraku, who was elected GFA President in 2019 and reelected in 2023, has emphasized his commitment to transforming Ghana football during his tenure, though questions remain about whether he will seek to extend his leadership beyond the second term.
