Asante Kotoko’s interim coach, Karim Zito, got off to a winning start on Sunday, guiding his side to a vital 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Zito, who was appointed earlier this week following a poor run under Prosper Ogum, kept his promise to breathe new life into the team, securing an important three points that narrows the gap at the top of the table to six. The win also offers a confidence boost ahead of next weekend’s highly anticipated clash against Hearts of Oak in Accra.
Kwame Opoku scored the match’s only goal, finding the bottom corner with a low strike in the 25th minute. Aduana FC had a chance to level the score before halftime, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara produced a superb penalty save in the 38th minute to preserve the lead.
Although Kotoko enjoyed greater possession, they created fewer chances, managing just five shots compared to Aduana’s seven. However, their one effort on target proved decisive.
Looking ahead, Aduana FC will seek to recover when they face Berekum Chelsea in a local derby, while Kotoko turn their attention to a crucial showdown with Hearts of Oak — a match that could have major implications for the title race.
