Bibiani Gold Stars faced a surprising setback in their Premier League title chase after suffering a 1-0 home defeat to struggling Karela United on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The loss marked Gold Stars’ first defeat of the season at Dun’s Park and came at a crucial stage in their campaign. With title hopes high, the result dealt a heavy blow to their momentum.
Karela United, fighting to escape the drop zone, grabbed the decisive goal just before halftime. Asigri Mohammed calmly finished off a well-placed cross from Fatawu Mohammed to give the visitors the lead.
Karela had been pressing with purpose throughout the first half, and their determination paid off. Head coach Nurudeen Amadu’s side stayed solid at the back during the second half, holding off late pressure from the home side to secure all three points.
This victory lifted Karela out of the relegation zone, taking them to 32 points with a better goal difference than their rivals at the bottom.
Gold Stars, who had been sitting at the top end of the table, now slip to third place with 53 points, just one behind new leaders Nations FC. Coach Frimpong Manso and his squad will aim to recover quickly as they prepare to host Asante Kotoko on May 23, 2025.
Meanwhile, Karela United will look to build on this momentum when they face Medeama SC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on matchday 31.
