Medeama SC and Asante Kotoko played out a tense 1-1 draw at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday, bringing an end to Kotoko’s four-match winning streak and denying Medeama a second consecutive victory under interim coach Evans Adotey.
Kotoko took the lead just before halftime, with Kwame Opoku scoring in the 44th minute. Opoku’s goal marked another impressive strike in his run of form, with goals in successive games since rejoining the club. The visitors looked on track for their fifth consecutive win, dominating possession and defending resolutely during the first half.
However, Medeama came alive after the break. Coach Adotey’s tactical adjustments paid off, with substitute Kamaradini Mamudu scoring the equalizer in the 66th minute. Mamudu capitalized on a defensive mistake to level the score and spark celebrations among the home fans.
Both sides pushed for a late winner, but despite a flurry of chances, neither team could find the decisive goal. The draw leaves Kotoko frustrated, as it hampers their pursuit of the league’s top spot, while Medeama showed resilience, earning a point in front of their supporters.
Kotoko will aim to bounce back in their next fixture, while Medeama will look to build on this display as they search for greater consistency.
