Heart of Lions delivered a dominant performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating Legon Cities 3-0 at the Kpando Stadium. The emphatic victory extended their unbeaten run to five games and propelled them to third place on the league table.
The Lions took the lead in the 22nd minute through Kojo Obeng Junior, who finished brilliantly to give his side the early advantage. In the second half, Mustapha Yakubu doubled the score in the 61st minute, and just five minutes later, Nana Oppong sealed the win with a clinical strike.
Despite head coach Bashir Hayford serving a touchline ban, Heart of Lions appeared unstoppable. They dominated the match with 18 attempts, nine of which were on target, showcasing their attacking intent. Goalkeeper Lawrence Osei was instrumental in securing the clean sheet, making five crucial saves to deny Legon Cities any chance of a comeback.
Legon Cities, meanwhile, struggled to match the Lions’ intensity. Although they managed 12 attempts with five on target, they were unable to break through the Lions’ solid defense. Their goalkeeper, Kwame Aziz, made six saves but couldn’t prevent the three goals that left his team languishing in second-to-last place on the league table.
Heart of Lions’ impressive attacking display and defensive discipline solidify their status as strong contenders in the league. For Legon Cities, the defeat highlights the urgent need to regroup and address their weaknesses to turn their season around.
