In preparation for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has successfully arranged a friendly match between the Black Stars and Botswana.
The international friendly, scheduled for January 8, 2024, at the renowned FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, holds significant importance in fine-tuning Ghana’s squad ahead of the continental tournament set to take place in Ivory Coast.
This strategic fixture is part of the team’s preparation for the 34th edition of AFCON, slated to run from January 13 to February 11. As the national team, led by coach Chris Hughton, gears up for the competition, the friendly against Botswana provides a crucial opportunity to enhance team cohesion.
To further enhance their readiness, the Black Stars will undergo a training camp in South Africa, emphasizing the importance of preparation for the continental challenge.
The encounter with Botswana revives memories of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana emerged victorious with a 1-0 result. With the AFCON group stage commencing on January 14, 2024, against Cape Verde, Ghana aims to build on its previous success and make a strong statement in the tournament.
The Black Stars will subsequently face Egypt and Mozambique in their group matches.
As Ghana seeks to secure its first AFCON title in 42 years, the friendly against Botswana serves as a pivotal step in shaping the team’s competitive edge.
