Dutch-born defender Leeroy Owusu is set to earn debut Black Stars call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.
According to kickgh.com, the right-back has spoken to head coach Otto Addo who recommended him to the technical team ahead of the crucial games this month.
And after assessing him, the technical team is convinced that Owusu can help the team and has decided to invite the former Netherlands youth international.
Owusu is having a great season and is seen as someone who can challenge Reading FC full-back Andy Yiadom for the right-back spot.
Yiadom has been Ghana’s first choice since 2019 but it appears he hasn’t won over fans and his performances at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon were seriously underwhelming.
Owusu, 25, who plays in the Eredivisie for Willem II has been involved in 21 of the 24 league games played by the club so far, missing three because of injuries.
Owusu has featured for Netherlands U17, U18, U19 and U20 teams but has never received an invitation from the senior national team and is eligible to play for Ghana.
Black Stars will lock horns with Nigeria in late March for a place at the World Cup in Qatar which kicks off in November this year.
Ghana will host the first leg on March 25 at the Cape Coast Stadium with the return leg scheduled for Abuja.
