Former Black Stars defender Daniel Opare has raised concerns that Ghana could be in serious trouble at the 2026 FIFA World Cup if key midfielder Mohammed Kudus is unable to recover from his current injury in time.
Kudus, 25, is currently sidelined and expected to miss the remainder of the season due to injury. His fitness has now become a major concern for Ghana as the nation prepares for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in an interview with JoySports, Opare stressed that Kudus plays a crucial role in the Black Stars setup and his absence would significantly weaken the team.
According to him, Ghana can still compete with the available players, but Kudus brings a special quality that lifts the overall strength of the squad.
He expressed hope that the midfielder will recover in time, saying the team needs him fully fit for the World Cup challenge.
Kudus has been one of Ghana’s standout performers in recent seasons and also impressed at club level with Tottenham Hotspur, where he scored nine goals across competitions before his injury setback earlier this year.
Meanwhile, new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to announce his final 26-man squad by June 1 as Ghana build up to their fifth World Cup appearance.
Ghana have been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
