In a move that marks a bold step in his promising career, Ghanaian-Dutch winger Jayden Addai has officially joined Italian Serie A club Como 1907 from AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands. The transfer, reportedly valued at €14 million, was finalized earlier this week after the 19-year-old successfully completed his medical on July 2.

Addai is expected to be unveiled in the coming days as Como ramps up preparations for its return to top-flight football following promotion from Serie B.

A Rising Star Heads to Italy

Addai’s transfer represents more than just a squad reinforcement for Como—it signals the club’s ambition to make an impression in Serie A. For Addai, it’s the next chapter in a career that has been on a steady upward trajectory since his early days in the Dutch football system.

Born on August 26, 2005, in the Netherlands to Ghanaian parents, Addai joined AZ Alkmaar’s academy at age 11 after being spotted at VPV Purmersteijn. Over the years, he rose through the youth ranks, eventually signing his first professional contract with AZ in December 2020, and later extending it through 2028.

Breakthrough at Jong AZ

Addai’s performances with Jong AZ, the reserve side competing in the Dutch second division, earned him national recognition. In 43 appearances, the right-footed forward scored 15 goals, showcasing blistering pace, composure in front of goal, and intelligent movement.

He also made appearances for AZ’s senior team in both the Eredivisie and the UEFA Conference League, gaining valuable experience against top-level opposition.

UEFA Youth League Glory

One of Addai’s standout achievements came in 2023, when he helped AZ Alkmaar’s U19 team win the prestigious UEFA Youth League, scoring four goals during the campaign. His contributions were vital in the club’s first-ever triumph in the tournament and cemented his reputation as one of Dutch football’s brightest young talents.

Though he has represented the Netherlands at youth level, Addai remains eligible to play for Ghana, a prospect that excites many Ghanaian fans hoping to see the teenager eventually wear the Black Stars jersey.

A New Challenge at Como

At Como, Addai joins a project backed by ambition and rising expectations. The club, newly promoted to Serie A, sees the youngster as a key part of their offensive rebuild ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

His style—quick, direct, and creative—fits the demands of Italian football, and his arrival brings youthful energy to a squad determined to secure survival and long-term success in the top tier.

Career Timeline

  • 2005: Born in the Netherlands
  • 2016: Joined AZ Alkmaar’s youth academy
  • 2020: Signed first professional contract with AZ
  • 2023: Won UEFA Youth League with AZ U19
  • June 2025: Como and AZ agree on transfer deal
  • July 2025: Medical completed, transfer finalized

Looking Ahead

As he begins this new adventure in Italy, Jayden Addai carries with him the hopes of two nations—the Netherlands, where he was nurtured, and Ghana, where his roots lie. The move to Serie A offers him an ideal platform to grow, compete, and prove himself on one of football’s grandest stages.

For Como, the signing is a statement of intent. For Addai, it’s a chance to shine.
