Ghanaian youngster Ilyas Ansah continued his fine form on Saturday afternoon, getting on the scoresheet to help FC Paderborn 07 edge out 1. FC Nurnberg in a 3-2 thriller in the German Bundesliga 2.
The exciting clash at the Max-Morlock-Stadion saw Paderborn come from behind to grab all three points, boosting their hopes of earning promotion to the Bundesliga next season.
Nurnberg wasted no time, opening the scoring just minutes after kick-off through Azerbaijan international Mahir Emreli.
However, Paderborn drew level in the 20th minute when German defender Tjark Scheller headed home a cross from Raphael Obermair.
Right after the break, Ilyas Ansah turned the game around with a well-taken goal that gave Paderborn the lead for the first time in the match.
Veteran forward Sven Michel then added a third in the 77th minute, finishing off a smart assist from Laurin Curda to give Paderborn a 3-1 advantage.
Although Emreli scored again for Nurnberg in stoppage time, it wasn’t enough to stop Paderborn from securing a crucial victory on the road.
The win places Paderborn in fourth on the league table, just three points away from the promotion spots as the season heads toward a dramatic conclusion.
Ansah, 20, who was born in Germany but is of Ghanaian descent, has now scored six goals and provided five assists in 30 appearances this season in the Bundesliga 2.
