Jordan Ayew is set to captain the Black Stars in their crucial doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. With Thomas Partey ruled out due to fitness issues, Ayew is poised to take the lead in these essential matches.
Partey, an Arsenal star, was originally included in coach Otto Addo’s 25-man squad but has withdrawn from the qualifiers alongside Joseph Paintsil, Ibrahim Osman, and Kingsley Schindler, all due to injuries.
The Black Stars face a tough road ahead as they strive to secure their place in AFCON 2025. Ghana has not missed the tournament since 2004 and is eager to end a 42-year trophy drought, having last lifted the AFCON trophy in 1982.
However, the qualification process has been challenging, with the team yet to secure a win. Ghana suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and followed it up with a 1-1 draw against Niger in their second match.
With Ayew at the helm, the Black Stars are determined to turn their fortunes around and aim for six crucial points in the upcoming matches against Sudan. The first leg will take place on October 10, followed by the return leg on October 15.
