Former Watford and England forward Troy Deeney has praised the qualities of Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo after his standout display against Manchester City in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old Black Stars forward played a crucial role in Bournemouth’s 2-1 victory at Vitality Park, which marked the end of Manchester City’s remarkable 32-game unbeaten run. Semenyo scored his fourth goal of the season, showcasing his finishing ability with a brilliant strike following a cross from Milos Kerkez.
Deeney, serving as the BBC’s Team of the Week expert, named Semenyo the Player of the Week, emphasizing his dominance in the match. “He was the player of the weekend by far. He completely outclassed Kyle Walker. I’ll put it down to this—Walker played a 6/10, and Semenyo was a 9.5/10,” he remarked.
Deeney continued, “I don’t think Semenyo will have a better game. Everything he touched found its way to his feet. He scored a goal and physically overpowered Walker at one point, putting him on the ground.”
Reflecting on Semenyo’s development, Deeney admitted, “We’ve all had those games—if you’re Kyle, you think ‘stay away from me.’ I have been critical of Semenyo and didn’t believe he would step up from Bristol City to this level, but he looks like he could be in the Premier League for a very long time.”
