Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has insisted that Carlos Queiroz remains the head coach of the Black Stars, stressing that authorities have not received any official resignation from the Portuguese tactician.
Queiroz sparked uncertainty over his future after Ghana’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when he posted a message of appreciation on social media that was widely interpreted as an indication of his departure from the national team.
The 73-year-old coach was appointed on a short-term contract ahead of the tournament after replacing Otto Addo, with the mandate of guiding Ghana through the World Cup campaign.
However, speaking in an interview with Joy News, Minister Adams explained that official procedures must be followed before any change in the technical leadership can be confirmed.
“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” Adams said.
The Sports Minister noted that the government and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are waiting for a comprehensive technical report from Queiroz before making any decisions about the future of the Black Stars.
According to Adams, the report will provide a detailed assessment of Ghana’s World Cup campaign, highlighting areas of progress as well as challenges that need to be addressed moving forward.
“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he added.
Adams also backed the Portuguese coach’s belief that Ghana’s national team requires rebuilding after the World Cup, insisting that any future decisions must be based on careful evaluation rather than public speculation.
The Black Stars reached the knockout stage of the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup after progressing from the group phase, but their journey ended in the Round of 32 following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
Since the elimination, uncertainty surrounding Queiroz’s position has dominated discussions, with fans and football stakeholders waiting for clarity on whether he will continue with the rebuilding project or leave the role.
For now, the Sports Minister maintains that the process must follow official channels, with Queiroz’s technical report expected to play a major role in determining the next step for Ghana’s senior national team.
