Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has voiced his concerns regarding the absence of leadership within Ghana’s senior national football team.
Speaking before the Parliament Select Committee on Sports on Tuesday, the former Juventus and Hearts of Oak midfielder highlighted a noticeable lack of guidance on the field.
“As a leader, you have to lead. There are certain decisions that are not popular with the players, but you have to take them. “Now, I am not seeing a captain leading the team.
He emphasized the importance of a captain taking charge, stating, “When it happens like that, players will think they can do whatever they want.”
Appiah urged the technical team, under the leadership of Otto Addo, to be more decisive and to make bold choices, regardless of any potential backlash.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are preparing to regroup for their upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next month.
Ghana will first host Sudan at a yet-to-be-determined venue due to CAF’s ban on the Baba Yara Stadium, before traveling for the return leg in Sudan.
