Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has expressed disappointment following his five-match suspension handed down by the Ghana FA’s Disciplinary Committee, stemming from allegations of verbal abuse directed at match officials during the team’s Matchday 7 encounter with Karela United at Tamale’s Aliu Mahama Stadium.
In addition to the suspension, Hayford has been fined GHC 5,000 and warned that further misconduct could result in more severe penalties. Speaking to Peace FM, Hayford voiced his frustrations, highlighting his lack of opportunity to present his side of the story.
“I haven’t been called for any arbitration or given a chance to explain. If I did something wrong, I believe I should have the chance to defend myself,” Hayford stated, emphasizing his concern over the process that led to the decision. He also challenged the allegations of unsporting behavior, which he believes tarnish his integrity.
The suspension will keep Hayford out of the technical area for crucial upcoming matches, including fixtures against Berekum Chelsea, Accra Lions, Legon Cities, Samartex, and Basake Holy Stars.
Hayford is set to return to the touchline for Heart of Lions’ December 24 clash with Young Apostles, as the club adjusts to his absence during critical league encounters.
