Eddie Nketiah, an English forward of Ghanaian descent, has extended his contract with Arsenal.
The 24-year-old footballer, in an interview with FourFourTwo, shared his deep affection for the Gunners in connection with his new deal, saying,
“I signed a new deal at Arsenal because I love the club. London is home… but I’ve been an Arsenal fan all my life, and that played a significant role.”
“Speaking to the manager and the plans he had for me… I knew I wanted to learn, develop, and help Arsenal FC.”
Originally from London, Nketiah began his football journey in Chelsea’s youth setup. However, in 2015, he parted ways with the club due to his physical stature. That same year, he joined the Arsenal academy, progressing through the U-18 and U-23 teams. After the 2016/17 season, he received a call-up from then-manager Arsène Wenger for a pre-season tour of Australia and China.
Subsequently, Nketiah made his debut for the senior squad, featuring in three matches during the following season. In the latter part of 2019, the striker embarked on a loan spell with Leeds, and upon his return, he started to earn more playing time.
In the previous season, Nketiah contributed significantly, making 40 appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals, and providing two assists. Furthermore, the forward represented various age categories of the national team and recently made an appearance for the senior England team in a match against Australia, coming on as a substitute in the 73rd minute for the goal scorer, Ollie Watkins.
