Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie marked his competitive debut for KRC Genk with an assist as his new side played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
The 19-year-old came off the bench in the 69th minute and quickly made an impact, setting up Aaron Bibout for Genk’s fourth goal at the Bosuilstadion.
Genk had appeared to be cruising towards victory after recovering from an early setback. Royal Antwerp opened the scoring through Anthony Valencia in the 16th minute before Josué Kongolo levelled the game for the visitors.
After the break, Genk took control as Rafiu Durosinmi and Ayumu Yokoyama struck in quick succession to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.
Afriyie then contributed to Genk’s fourth goal, delivering the final pass for Bibout to extend the advantage.
However, Antwerp staged a dramatic late fightback. Eran Tuypens reduced the deficit ten minutes before the end before Michael Frey scored twice in the space of two minutes to rescue a point for the home side.
Although Genk were denied what looked like a comfortable away victory, Afriyie’s performance provided an encouraging start to his career with the Belgian club.
The Ghanaian joined Genk after an impressive 2025/26 campaign on loan at RAAL La Louvière, where he registered five goals and two assists in 34 appearances.
Afriyie, who turns 20 on August 24, has already made four appearances for the Ghana senior national team and scored on his Black Stars debut.
His promising introduction at Genk will be seen as a positive sign as he looks to establish himself and make a greater impact in Belgian football.
