The “Pamoja Bid,” a joint bid by East African nations comprising Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Morocco, on the other hand, has secured the rights to host the 2025 edition of the tournament.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by CAF President Patrice Motsepe following an executive committee meeting held in Cairo, Egypt.
Several nations initially expressed interest in hosting AFCON, including Algeria, Egypt, Botswana, Zambia, and Burkina Faso. However, only the “Pamoja Bid” from East Africa and Morocco submitted formal bid books for consideration.
Namibia had initially partnered with Botswana but later withdrew from the joint bid.
Ultimately, the “Pamoja Bid” emerged as the successful host for the 2027 AFCON, marking a significant achievement for the East African nations.
