Asante Kotoko legend George Kennedy has called on the club’s management to appoint Abdul Karim Zito as the substantive head coach if he successfully leads the team to a domestic double this season.
Zito, a former Ghana U-20 coach, took over the Porcupine Warriors on an interim basis following the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum in the second round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Since his appointment, Kotoko have remained unbeaten and have booked a place in the final of the MTN FA Cup. The club is also still in contention for the league title, adding to Zito’s growing credentials.
Speaking to Akoma FM, Kennedy stressed that Zito’s performance should be the basis for any coaching decision at the end of the season.
“It is too early to determine who should be hired as the next coach,” Kennedy said. “If Zito is performing very well and winning all available matches, what criteria will you use to hire someone else as the substantive coach?”
He added: “That cannot happen, so let us hope that Zito continues to perform and wins the league and the FA Cup for Kotoko, then we are through. There will be no need for hiring another coach for Kotoko because Zito gave his all. What we want is results, and the outcomes are that Zito has earned us the double—so what again?”
Asante Kotoko will aim to keep their title hopes alive when they welcome Dreams FC to the Baba Yara Stadium for a crucial Matchday 31 encounter on Sunday.
