Black Starlets head coach Laryea Kingston expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the University of Ghana Stadium, stating that it hindered their gameplay against Benin.
Despite the setback, Ghana secured victory in their second match of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, leading Group A and securing a spot in the semifinals.
In contrast to their previous match against Cote d’Ivoire where they scored five goals, Kingston’s team managed only two goals against Benin, partially attributing the difference to the challenging pitch conditions.
While Kingston acknowledged his team’s performance, he emphasized the difficulties posed by the current state of the pitch, which slowed down their intended style of play.
“I want us to be calm enough. The way we want to play, we want to be calm enough. Sometimes, it’s very difficult to play,” Kingston said after the game.
“We have one or two challenges with the way the ball moves on the pitch; it’s a bit slow. So it slowed the way we wanted to play.
“For me, I think we dominated play today unlike against Ivory Coast.”
Looking ahead, the Black Starlets aim to maintain their unbeaten record in the competition as they anticipate their opponents in the semifinals.
