President John Dramani Mahama has reassured the Black Stars that Ghanaians still believe in them despite their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
During a surprise visit to the team’s training session on Wednesday, Mahama acknowledged their recent struggles but expressed confidence in their ability to bounce back.
“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON. But even when we qualified for the AFCON, we crashed out very early the last time. And so we haven’t given up on you,” he told the players and technical team.
The President emphasized that the team’s revival depends on their collective effort, including the players, technical staff, and management.
“We still believe that the Black Stars can find its glory again. And it’s dependent on you, the technical team, and the management committee,” he stated.
Mahama also reminded the players that while Ghanaians support them wholeheartedly, their success will be determined by their dedication and sacrifice on the field.
“The goals will come from these feet that are right here. And so it takes sacrifice. It takes strength. We all like to watch you when you play for your teams, and we expect that you bring some of that dedication to the national team,” he urged.
The Black Stars are gearing up for crucial World Cup qualifiers, facing Chad on Friday, March 21, before taking on Madagascar in Morocco on March 24.
Following a difficult 2024 campaign with only two wins in ten matches, Otto Addo and his team are determined to start 2025 on a strong note and reignite their World Cup qualification hopes.
