Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan showers accolades on Kudus Mohammed, lauding him as the standout player on the African continent currently, particularly for his stellar performances in Europe.
Kudus, 23, has dazzled since his move to West Ham United last summer, earning admiration for his consistent displays and becoming a beloved figure among fans at the London Olympic Stadium.
With an impressive tally of 13 goals and 4 assists across various competitions this season, Kudus has firmly established himself as a mercurial playmaker at the peak of his powers.
In a recent interview, Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, likens Kudus’s significance to that of past icons like himself, Abedi Pele, and others, asserting that Kudus now epitomizes the face of the Black Stars.
“So far it is obvious when I say it’s obvious I mean you know, Mohammed Kudus,” Gyan emphasised on Asempa FM.
“When I was coming up, we had Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari and at a point it got to me. Players have come and gone. We had the Abedi Pele era, Stephen Appiah era, Michael Essien era and the Asamoah Gyan era and now it looks like it’s Kudus’ era.”
Gyan emphasizes Kudus’s unparalleled performance in Europe, notably in the prestigious Premier League, highlighting his impact not only domestically but also across the African continent.
“I mean he is the only Ghanaian player performing in Europe. And not just in any league, but in the Premier League.”
Asserting Kudus’s status as the sole Ghanaian excelling in European football, particularly in the Premier League, Gyan urges fellow Ghanaians to rally behind Kudus and support his continued rise to prominence.
“He’s not just doing well in Ghana but also in Africa. He’s the only African player who is doing so well for now. So we have to just support him”, he concluded
