Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu has shared his excitement after finally returning to ball work as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury at AS Monaco.
The 26-year-old has begun individual training sessions at Monaco’s training facility, marking a key step forward in his rehabilitation after being sidelined for several months.
Speaking after his first session back with the ball, Salisu described the moment as a positive and motivating milestone in his recovery journey. He admitted it felt great to be back on the pitch and said he is eager to keep progressing in his comeback process.
Salisu has been out of action since January 2026 after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a Ligue 1 match against Olympique Lyonnais. The injury required surgery and has kept him out of competitive football since then.
His return to light training indicates that he is now in the final stages of rehabilitation. Monaco’s medical team are expected to carefully increase his workload step by step before allowing him to rejoin full team training.
Before his injury setback, Salisu was an important figure in Monaco’s defence and also played a key role for the Ghana national team, including scoring during the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Although his recovery progress is encouraging, a return in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains uncertain. Medical timelines for ACL injuries suggest he may only be fully ready for high-intensity competition later in the year.
For now, Monaco are prioritising a full and careful recovery process, aiming to have the defender fully fit and ready for the 2026/27 season without rushing his return.
