Nsoatreman FC has officially withdrawn from the Ghana Premier League following the violent incidents that marred their Matchday 19 clash against Asante Kotoko at the Nana Konamansah Park on Sunday.
The decision comes in the wake of the tragic death of Asante Kotoko Supporters’ Communication Team member, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants after the game.
Confirming the club’s withdrawal, Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Joel Gyempeh revealed in an interview with Accra-based MAX FM that Nsoatreman FC has formally written to the GFA to communicate their decision.
Meanwhile, both Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko have pledged full cooperation with authorities to assist in the ongoing investigation.
In response to the violence, the GFA has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue. Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been tasked with leading the investigation into the incident.
The match, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Nsoatreman, has now been overshadowed by the tragic events that followed, raising serious concerns about security at league matches in Ghana.
