South African club Black Leopards have sacked Ghanaian coach Maxwell Konadu with immediate effect following their 2-1 defeat to Lerumo United on Saturday.
The loss left Leopards in 10th place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 23 points from 17 matches, prompting the club to part ways with Konadu, who had been under pressure due to inconsistent performances.
Konadu, who took charge of the Venda-based club in July 2024, arrived with high expectations given his vast experience with Ghana’s national teams. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Black Stars under Otto Addo, Milovan Rajevac, Chris Hughton, Kwesi Appiah, and Avram Grant.
Despite his strong credentials, Konadu struggled to deliver the expected results, ultimately leading to his dismissal.
According to South African journalist Robin-Duke Madlala of Sportswire.co.za, Black Leopards have already approached Venda Football Academy coach Stan Nkoane as a potential replacement. Nkoane, who only joined VFA last month, could now be in line for a swift switch to Leopards.
Meanwhile, with Ghanaian football currently in crisis following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, there is speculation that Konadu could return to the national setup.
Before joining Leopards, Konadu led Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC to FA Cup glory, a feat that earned him the South African job.
