Samartex head coach Nurudeen Amadu has stepped down from his position following the club’s ongoing struggles in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.
The Timber Giants currently sit ninth-from-bottom in the league table with 17 points from 13 matches. Their recent 1-0 home defeat to Heart of Lions marked their third consecutive loss and extended their poor run to four defeats in the season so far.
Amadu, who previously coached Tamale Future Stars and King Faisal, took charge of Samartex in July 2023 during a restructuring phase, which also saw Henry Wellington appointed as assistant coach. In his first season, Amadu led Samartex to their historic 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title, earning praise for transforming the club’s fortunes.
However, the current campaign has been far from convincing. Samartex has struggled to replicate last season’s dominance, managing only four wins, five draws, and four losses. This underwhelming performance has drawn heavy criticism from sections of the club’s supporters.
While Amadu’s resignation is largely attributed to the team’s form, reports suggest there may have been “other reasons” behind his decision to leave before the end of his two-year contract. Further details on these factors remain undisclosed.
The departure leaves Samartex searching for a new direction as they aim to recover and climb up the league standings.
