The 11th edition of the African Women’s Championship draws nearer as the Local Organizing Committee today unveiled the official mascot, Agoro Hemaa, of the tournament.
The ceremony held yesterday, Friday, September 28 at the Alisa Hotel, Accra saw the unveiling of the Eagle Mascot which symbolizes courage, strength, focus and immortality according to the guest of Honor, Honorable Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports.
The Mascot, Agoro Hemaa is a Twi Language, loosely translated as Sport Queens or Play Queen.
Aside the launch of Agoro Hemaa, the tournament mascot, official website (www.afconwomenghana.com) and the official song were also launched – for the first time in the history of the biennial tournament.
Legendary High Life artiste Akosua Agyapong, Afro Pop singer, Wiyaala and Gospel Singer, Grace Ashley are composers of the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations tune.
Ghana will be hosting seven other nations; Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, South Africa, Mali, Zambia and Algeria from November 17 to December 1.
The tournament also serves as qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by France.
