The 30-year-old goalkeeper, along with Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare, and Kermit Erasmus, was deemed surplus to requirements by the club’s technical team at the end of the 2023–24 season.
The club’s official statement reads: “As the football season draws to a close, we not only mark the end of our campaign but also bid farewell to some of our esteemed players. Orlando Pirates can confirm that Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare, and Kermit Erasmus will be leaving us when their respective contracts come to an end on June 30. It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we reflect on the contributions of these players during their time with us.”
Ofori joined the Buccaneers from Maritzburg United in 2020 and played 58 games for the club, conceding 36 goals and keeping 30 clean sheets. However, injuries limited his appearances this season to just three.
During his tenure, the former Wa All Stars goalkeeper helped Orlando Pirates win the South African MTN8 Cup three times. On the international stage, Ofori has been capped 28 times for Ghana, with his last appearance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
