Oxford United Academy manager Stevie Kinniburgh has threw more lights on the development of Ghanaian teenager Gatlin O’Donkor.
Donkor, 18, made his senior team appearance at the age of 16 in 2020 and this season, he has already scored twice in the Championship.
Kinniburgh believes Donkor needs more minute as he continues his development.” He emphasized
“It’s more about the minutes, we’ve got to look at the level that he’s going to play 90 minutes more regularly.”
“Is that going to be with our first team? Hopefully, but that’s really difficult.”
“The hard bit is going from that Under-18 to the first team, and we’ve got to look at two or three different ways we can get them minutes.”
“But also it’s really important to be on the fringes of the first team because that experience of being in and around those players, that’s what it’s all about.”
“These players need to deal with being on the fringes and not getting a lot of game time, and then having to drop down into the Under 18s and playing.” He added
Donkor was born to Ghanaian parents in Scotland and he is yet to be capped internationally at any level.
