Richmond Lamptey, the gifted midfielder from Asante Kotoko, sparked curiosity when he secured a spot in the Black Stars squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
However, Lamptey remained on the sidelines throughout Ghana’s disappointing campaign, leaving players perplexed and prompting calls for an investigation.
An undisclosed Black Stars player, revealing details to Saddick Adams (Sports Obama) after an episode of “Ghana Black Stars, the disease and the cure” on Angel TV, unveiled that Lamptey consistently excelled in over eight training sessions, often ranking as the best or second best player.
The only players mentioned in comparison were defender Alexander Djiku and winger Osman Bukari.
Despite Lamptey’s outstanding performances in training, he never made it into any matchday squad during the tournament. Players, including the anonymous source, expressed their bewilderment and frustration over Lamptey’s omission.
Saddick Adams, sharing this revelation on his social media handles, mentioned that a member of the dissolved technical team had corroborated the claims.
The undisclosed player stressed the importance of Ghanaians apologizing to Richmond Lamptey and urged an investigation into why, despite his consistent excellence in training, he was denied the chance to display his skills on the field.
Richmond Lamptey has returned to Ghana and is preparing to join his Asante Kotoko teammates for the upcoming Ghana Premier League.
