Ghanaian striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom has opened up about the highlight of his football career. The 30-year-old, who recently joined Malaysian club Selangor FC, revealed that his best moment was playing against Real Madrid and scoring a goal.
Boakye-Yiadom showcased his talent when he found the back of the net for Elche in a narrow 2-1 home defeat against the Spanish giants in the La Liga back in 2013. Coming off the bench, he canceled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s 51st-minute goal by scoring in the 90th minute.
Although Elche seemed poised for a share of the spoils, Ronaldo scored the match-winning goal from the penalty spot during the sixth minute of added time.
“Playing against Real Madrid and scoring to cancel out Ronaldo’s goal is the most memorable moment of my career. It was truly special to score against Real Madrid and Ronaldo,” Boakye-Yiadom reflected.
The 30-year-old forward, who recently became a free agent, signed a six-month deal with Selangor FC, aiming to contribute to the team’s pursuit of the Malaysia Super League championship in the second half of the season. Selangor FC currently occupies the second position on the league table, and Boakye-Yiadom’s arrival is expected to strengthen the team’s attacking capabilities.
Boakye-Yiadom’s previous club was Al Akhdar, where he made 11 appearances and scored three goals across various competitions in Libya. Throughout his career, he has also represented prominent Italian clubs such as Genoa, Sassuolo, Juventus, Atalanta, and Latina. His journey then took him to Serbia, where he joined Red Star Belgrade.
