The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Player Status Committee has ruled in favor of midfielder Shawkan Mohammed, declaring that Accra Lions made an error in unilaterally activating his contract extension clause. This decision invalidates the extension, freeing Shawkan to sign with any club.
The dispute began when Accra Lions claimed they could extend Shawkan’s contract through a specific clause. However, the committee determined that the activation did not adhere to the agreed terms, thus rendering it null and void.
With the ruling now in his favor, the 21-year-old midfielder is set to join Asante Kotoko. The Porcupine Warriors, keen to bolster their squad for the upcoming season, have been tracking Shawkan’s progress and are enthusiastic about adding him to their roster.
Shawkan Mohammed, who has been a standout player in the Ghana Premier League, is expected to integrate into Asante Kotoko’s squad for their second phase of preseason training in Cape Coast. His previous interest from the club had not materialized until now, but this latest development paves the way for a significant move.
Shawkan made 30 appearances for Accra Lions in the last season and is anticipated to make a notable impact at his new club.
