Former Ghana striker Godwin Attram has praised the Ghana Football Association’s decision to appoint Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, expressing confidence in the experienced tactician’s ability to steer the national team in the right direction.
Queiroz was named Ghana’s new coach earlier this year following the departure of Otto Addo, who left the role after defeats to Austria and Germany in preparatory matches ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Attram described the appointment as a positive move and believes the Portuguese coach has the pedigree to improve the team’s mentality, organisation, and overall performances.
“The FA did well to appoint him, and we hope that whatever the country wants, he will deliver,” Attram said.
The former Black Stars forward also dismissed concerns about Ghana’s chances in a challenging World Cup group, insisting proper preparation can help the team progress to the knockout stages.
“Why not? At the end of the day, it’s just football, and if we prepare ourselves very well, in tune with whatever the players must do, I’m very sure we will qualify out of the group,” he added.
Ghana will continue their preparations for the Mundial with an international friendly against Wales on June 2 at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Black Stars are set for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field.
Having suffered group-stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, the Black Stars will be determined to reach the knockout rounds for the first time since their memorable run in South Africa in 2010.
Meanwhile, Queiroz has already named a 28-man provisional squad, with the final list for the tournament expected to be unveiled on June 1.
