Business consultant and owner of Elmina Sharks, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has called for sweeping reforms within the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the tragic events at Nsoatre last weekend.
The incident saw Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, fatally stabbed at the Nana Koroman II Park during Kotoko’s matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC. The attack led to the arrest of three individuals as investigations continue.
While the GFA has initiated steps to address the violence, including pressing charges against those involved, Nduom believes the response falls short and has urged for an overhaul of the football governing body.
“The GFA needs a serious overhaul,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “A few people at the top feed on FIFA money and leave the clubs, referees, and players hungry. What are we waiting for? More deaths, bankruptcies, and Black Stars losses?”
In the wake of the tragedy, the GFA has suspended all Ghana Premier League fixtures for the weekend and scheduled a meeting with league clubs on Thursday, February 6. A separate meeting with supporters’ leadership is set for Friday as part of efforts to address the growing concerns over football-related violence.
