According to Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”. This is the state of Ghanaian Athletes at the ongoing 13th All-African Games.
Ghana simply did not prepare its athletes adequately as cyclists and badmintonists have complained bitterly about the poor preparations they got ahead of the competition which has led to their failure.
Micheal Naaba withdrew from Sunday’s cycling event for Ghana in the 13th All-African Games due to a lack of equipment.
When interviewed on the reason why he was not part of the event, he blamed it on the lack of a better bicycle.
“I will say it’s okay for me because I have prepared from last year when they informed us of the 13th All African Games,” said Naaba when asked about his preparations.
“My bicycle failed me the moment I started the race. My tube blasted when we started simply because I didn’t have a better tube. The tube I use for training is the tube I used for the competition,” spoke Naaba.
Micheal Naaba revealed that the tube he used for training was the same tube he used for the competition.
Preparations have not been great considering what most of the Ghanaian athletes are talking about. It is quite shameful for the country to not even afford common bicycles to its athletes when you hear that we have invested over $200 million in the 13th All-African Games.
