Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is delighted to have made a comeback to the pitch having sustained an injury in almost 321 days.
After almost a year, the former Manchester United versatile defender was able to return to Bayer Leverkusen squad.
The talented defender came on in the 56th minute of the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach for injured compatriot Jeremie Frimpong.
A cruciate ligament rupture in February 2020 caused the 24-year-old to take a long forced break. Now he is again an alternative for Bayer coach Gerardo Seoane.
After being named on the bench in last weekend’s 2-2 home draw against Union Berlin, the 24-year-old came off the bench to play the last 35 minutes against Gladbach.
It was Fosu-Mensah’s first appearance since 28 February 2021 where he sustained the severe injury against Freiburg.
On his return, Leverkusen’s number 24 made 17 touches, completed his one attempted dribble, won four duels, whilst making two tackles and one clearance.
After leaving United in January last year, Fosu-Mensah, who has suffered two cruciate knee ligament injuries during his career will be hoping his injury misfortunes are now behind him.
Yesterday’s return was Fosu-Mensah’s eight appearance for the Bundesliga giants and he will now no doubt be targeting a place in the starting line-up and helping his side achieve Champions League qualification.
Whilst embarking on loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham, Fosu-Mensah made 30 appearances for Manchester United with his last coming against RB Leipzig in the Champions League in December 2020.
