Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has praised the strong bond within Ghana’s goalkeeping department, insisting that competition among the team’s shot-stoppers is built on support and unity rather than rivalry.
The St. Gallen goalkeeper revealed that he maintains a positive relationship with Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and the other members of the national team’s goalkeeping unit.
“Myself, Benjamin Asare and the other goalkeepers have a nice relationship. It was about building a good goalkeeping unit,” Ati-Zigi said.
The 29-year-old explained that the goalkeepers have always worked together to create a supportive environment where everyone is prepared to perform whenever called upon.
According to Ati-Zigi, the priority has never been individual competition but ensuring that Ghana has a reliable group of goalkeepers capable of delivering at the highest level.
Ati-Zigi featured twice for Ghana during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while Benjamin Asare also impressed after making his debut on football’s biggest stage.
Having been part of the Black Stars setup since 2018, Ati-Zigi has developed into one of the senior figures within the squad and believes the unity among Ghana’s goalkeepers will remain an important strength as the team prepares for future international challenges.
