Following Ghana’s victory over Congo in the U-23 AFCON opener, Black Meteors forward Emmanuel Yeboah expressed his gratitude to his teammates for their collective effort.
Yeboah, who plays for Romania’s CFR Cluj, made a substitute appearance during Ghana’s 3-2 triumph at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Coming on for captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh at halftime, Yeboah made an immediate impact by scoring two goals in the highly anticipated match.
Prior to his brace, Yeboah set up Ernest Nuamah to break the deadlock just five minutes into the second half.
Yeboah emphasized that the credit for the victory does not solely belong to him, acknowledging the unity within the team.
The win places Ghana at the top of Group A alongside Morocco, who also secured three points by defeating Guinea in their opening match.
“When I saw the opponents we were going to face; I was delighted because they are powerhouses of African football. It is through such strong opposition that we progress. We couldn’t afford to falter today against Congo, and we will gain momentum as the tournament progresses,” Emmanuel Yeboah said after the match.
“I’m a pretty relaxed person. When the coach told me to enter the game, I immediately knew what my mission was: to shine for the team.”
“The credit doesn’t belong to me alone. I feel blessed to be part of a group where I can genuinely call each of these players my brothers.”
“We have the coach, the staff, and the players to go all the way; it’s up to us to stay focused,” he ended.
Ghana’s next game will be against Morocco on Tuesday, as they aim to secure a top-three finish in the competition to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
The Black Meteors’ last participation in the Olympic Games was in 2004, when the event was held in Athens, Greece.
