Black Stars coach Otto Addo is optimistic about his squad’s chances of securing a win against Sudan in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana will face Sudan in both Matchdays three and four of the qualifiers, with the first leg set for Thursday, October 10, and the return leg on October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
After a shaky start to their campaign, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola and drew 1-1 with Niger, the four-time African champions are eager to secure their first win in the qualifiers.
Speaking ahead of the critical first leg against Sudan, the 45-year-old coach expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform. “We have talented players, better footballers than them, so we need to win this game,” Addo asserted.
However, while he believes in the quality of his squad, Addo remains aware of the threat posed by Sudan, particularly with the experienced James Kwesi Appiah at the helm of the Sudanese national team.
“We are fully aware of their strengths and capabilities, but we must stay focused and give our best effort,” he emphasized.
Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F with just one point from two matches. The match is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT.
In preparation, the Black Stars will continue their training session later today at the Accra Sports Stadium, with eight additional players—Alexander Djiku, Tariq Lamptey, Alidu Seidu, Ernest Nuamah, Majeed Ashimeru, Lawrence Ati Zigi, Jerome Opoku, and Abdul Mumin—having joined the camp.
