Executive Council aspirant Otuo Acheampong Sometymer has intimated that it is imperative the soon-to-be elected GFA President gets the backing and protection of a very strong and accountable Executive Council to help serve as a guide and to see to it that the appropriate checks and balances are put in place for the President to flourish.
The General Manager of Asokwa Deportivo disclosed this in an exclusive interview with SportsworldGhana.com and asked delegates to throw their weight behind him as the GFA prepare to decide its new leaders on Friday.
“I think we need an Executive Council that will be strong enough to protect the President. Power corrupts and when you do not have an Executive Council that has the tenacity and the will to correct the President it becomes a problem. Since the President is a human being, he will not always get it right”. he exclusively told SportsworldGhana.com.
“I am of the view that the Executive Council should be bold enough to let him know his faults. They should be argumentative enough in terms of letting the system know what is right and wrong and we should also be looking at a very transparent Executive Council where contracts signed by the GFA should be privy to officials and help to create what I am calling reputation management and strategic studies.
”When you have a very good and keen reputation, it is quite easier dealing with corporate bodies and prospective sponsors. Commercialization should be the bedrock of a very functioning and active GFA supported by a vibrant Executive Council. Football now is not played for the sake of it, football is business now and that is why football clubs place premium on match day revenues, broadcasting revenues and commercial revenue.
“When all of these are put together in a very good structure that seem to lean on pure and true corporate systems, it could go a long way in restoring our football back to its perch and that is why delegates should look at people with a credible track record to constitute the Executive council”, he concluded.
