Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum is concerned about Cercle Brugge’s unimpressive start to the 2024/25 Belgium Jupiler Pro League campaign.
The midfielder, who is on loan from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg, has featured in the opening two games for Cercle Brugge, but the team is yet to pick a point.
Cercle Brugge have had a difficult start to the campaign, losing their first two games to Westerlo and Kortrijk respectively. Agyekum’s debut ended in a 3-0 humiliating defeat to Westerlo before their 2-1 loss to Kortrijk at the weekend on home turf.
The former WAFA player was in action on Sunday when his outfit succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Kortrijk at the Jan Breydelstadion. Despite their slow start, Agyekum took to social media to express optimism about the club’s chances this season, writing “Big thanks to our amazing fans for the massive support. We will come back stronger” he shared on Instagram.
Kortrijk opened the scoring through Nacho Ferri after just 13 minutes, but the home team leveled the pegging before the halftime break through Thibo Somers.
However, the visitors found the back of the net again through Mark Mampassi, which cemented the win for Kortrijk. Agyekum is expected to play a huge role for the club this season, but he will need to help turn their fortunes around if they are to avoid relegation.
