George Amoako, the former Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko and current member of the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council, emphasizes the importance of being a supporter and understanding the club’s culture in effectively managing Kotoko.
In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Amoako acknowledges that running Kotoko is no easy task and requires deep familiarity with the institution.
He highlights the challenges faced by leaders of the club, stating that supporters tend to become disenchanted after a short period of two years, often interpreting every action negatively.
Amoako emphasizes the need for careful consideration of the issues at hand and cautions against an ad hoc approach that could hinder progress. He believes that successfully managing Kotoko is not merely about wealth, but rather about being a true Kotoko supporter and comprehending the club’s culture.
He cites historical instances where the club thrived under leadership that wasn’t necessarily composed of affluent individuals.
“Kotoko is not a simple institution, it is not easy at all leading the club. They get fed up with you after two years and everything you do, they will see it with negative eyes,” he said in an interview with Oyerepa FM.
“We need to sit down and look at the issues carefully. With how things are done with the Adhoc approach, it will be difficult.
“It is not easy running Kotoko, you must be a Kotoko supporter and understand the culture of the club, it is not about being rich, most of the time the club has flourished, the club was not run by rich men.”
Amoako’s remarks shed light on the unique nature of managing Asante Kotoko, emphasizing the significance of passion, understanding, and a thorough appreciation of the club’s traditions and values.
