Re-appointed Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah wants support for local coaches

Newly appointed Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah has called on the Ghana Football Association to have confidence in local coaches.

The former Asante Kotoko trainer was re-appointed by the GFA three years after he was shown the exit.

Appiah was hired to replace Avram Grant following Ghana’s disastrous campaign in the 2017 Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Appiah who qualified the Black Stars for the 2014 mundial for the very first time as local coach believes total support for his fellow compatriots could be the way to go for Ghana football.

“As a nation, the most important thing is for the leaders or the Football Association to have confidence in the local Coaches.” He told the BBC.

“I believe there are lots of local Coaches who are competent and good enough and so if they (GFA) believe in local Coaches I don’t think there will be the need to go in for a foreign coach.”

Kwesi Appiah who is set to arrive in Ghana on Friday will officially begin work on May 1.
