Former Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has showered praise on Kobbie Mainoo, hailing the young talent’s potential for a promising future in football.
At just 18 years old, Mainoo has made significant strides in the current season, featuring in 22 matches across various competitions for the Red Devils.
Mainoo has showcased his abilities with standout performances, notably scoring two crucial goals for Erik ten Hag’s side. His memorable winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a thrilling 4-3 victory and his contribution in a 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport County underline his impact.
Rooney, speaking to TNT Sports, lauded Mainoo’s remarkable maturity and skill at such a tender age, drawing comparisons to a young Bastian Schweinsteiger for his composed demeanor and astute decision-making on the field.
“I think he’s incredible for such a young age, with the maturity he’s shown,” he said.
“When you see any young players come into the first team they’re normally a bit raw or play off the cuff.“He reminds me of a young Bastian Schweinsteiger with how he plays, and he always seems to make the right decisions.
“He has a very bright future,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed keen interest in securing Mainoo’s allegiance to represent the Black Stars on the international stage, recognizing his immense talent and potential impact for the national team.
