Black Stars Management Committee Vice Chairman Stephen Appiah has expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their recent victories in the qualifiers.
Ghana opened up a five-point lead at the top of Group I after a dominant 3-0 win over Madagascar in Morocco on Monday. This result followed an emphatic 5-0 triumph against Chad in Accra last Friday, further solidifying the Black Stars’ position in the group with four matches remaining in the qualification campaign.
Appiah, a key figure in Ghana’s football history as the captain who led the nation to its first-ever World Cup in 2006, was appointed to the Black Stars’ technical team in January as part of efforts to revamp the squad. Speaking to 3Sports after the victory over Madagascar, he encouraged Ghanaians to continue supporting the team and expressed confidence in their qualification hopes.
“We still have four games to play. When we played against Chad, it was amazing; we were not expecting something like that. So bring back the love,” Appiah stated.
“We thank them for their support, they’ve been amazing. They should continue praying for us, for the team, and for sure, we will be in America,” he added.
Ghana, currently leading Group I, are well-positioned to qualify for their fifth World Cup, having previously participated in the 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022 editions. The 2026 tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
