Ghanaian striker Benjamin Tetteh delivered a match-winning performance on Friday night, scoring twice to propel NK Maribor to a thrilling 3-2 win over Aluminij in the Slovenian PrvaLiga.
The victory, played out on September 19, lifted Maribor into second place on the league table after nine matches, underlining their title ambitions.
Tetteh, 28, struck in both halves to showcase his growing influence at the club. After Gregor Sikošek opened the scoring in the 26th minute, the Ghanaian forward doubled Maribor’s advantage 10 minutes later with a composed finish.
Aluminij responded early in the second half through a penalty from Saitoski, but Tetteh quickly restored the two-goal cushion in the 53rd minute with his second of the night.
Bloudek pulled one back for Aluminij in the 62nd minute to set up a nervy finale, but Maribor held firm to secure their fifth league win of the season.
Tetteh’s brace takes his tally to seven goals in nine league appearances this campaign, adding to his three assists — a return that highlights his crucial role in Maribor’s attack.
With the win, Maribor climb to 17 points, five adrift of leaders Celje, as they continue their push for a return to the summit of Slovenian football.
